LATEST ACTION IN CAMPAIGN V INCINERATOR AT NEW BARNFIELD
URGENT
– PLEASE SIGN THIS ON-LINE PETITION
Tomorrow (Sunday March 3 or early on Monday March 4th)
AS IT NEEDS TO BE SENT TO HERTS COUNTY COUNCIL BY MONDAY
Herts County Council’s Waste Management Panel is meeting this coming Thursday, March 7th at 2.00 p.m. in Committee Room B of County Hall, Hertford.
On the agenda is a report about the proposed “Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility” (i.e. incinerator) at New Barnfield.
One item in the report refers to the savings that HCC claims will be made by building this incinerator. (HCC claim savings of £779 million over the 25 year operation of the incinerator).
HAI and other campaigning groups such as Herts WithOut Waste know that these figures are based on outdated underlying calculations, and we need to see up-to-date calculations and accurate figures.
The public can attend this meeting, to listen, and petitions can be presented (if a petition has 100 signatures).
Mick Bee, of Herts WithOut Waste, intends to present a petition about the need for accurate figures relating to HCC’s claimed “savings”.
PLEASE SIGN THE ON-LINE PETITION

Petition called New Barnfield incinerator costs (Pending until 3 March)
Wording of Petition:
New Barnfield waste incinerator proposal "... the savings that it will generate for the County Council over its 25-year operation have been calculated at a total of £779m or an average of £31m a year" (press release July 2011; Report HCC Waste Management Cabinet Panel, 7th March 2013, para 7.3; etc.).
These 'savings' are used to justify the proposal but are based on out of date projections and information (some from 2008).
In the light of the significant changes that have occurred since these 'savings' were calculated we believe that they are no longer valid. We request that HCC, if they seek to continue with this incinerator proposal, urgently produce, and then publish, up to date calculations.
