To the shock and surprise of many, the West Herts Hospitals Trust recently announced plans to start charging disabled drivers to park at their hospitals (St Albans, Watford and Hemel). The charge is at least £4 per visit. At the same time, they are axing the staff bus service between the hospitals.
I proposed a motion at St Albans District Council, on February 26, to put pressure on the Trust to reverse their decision.
The motion received unanimous and vocal support from all other councillors. The Trust Board will now be summoned to appear before the Council's Scrutiny Committee, to explain themselves, hear the arguments against their plans, and, hopefully, reverse their decision.
