A Nissan Micra reversed into the doors of the Halifax in Howardsgate in Welwyn Garden City and robbed the building society just after 3.20pm on Thursday afternoon.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information after the robbery when a white man, who had his face covered, went in to the building society and a substantial amount of money was stolen.
A woman aged in her 30s suffered a minor injury to her ankle after being hit by the car when it went in to the bank, but fortunately no-one else was injured.
Detective Sergeant Rob Burns said: “We are appealing to anyone who saw the car reverse in to the bank or who may have seen the offenders before or after the robbery. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured and we will do everything we can to apprehend the people who carried out the robbery.”
Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Dave Wheatley said: “This type of incident is very uncommon in Welwyn Hatfield and I’d reassure people that we have a team of experienced detectives working to establish who was responsible.”
