Keep vigilant following theft of catalytic converters
 

 

Officers are urging people to be increasingly vigilant following a rise in the theft of catalytic converters and spare wheels from vans in Welwyn Hatfield.

 

The thefts are occurring in the afternoon or during the night with vans mostly being targeted.

 

Recent incidents include:
• A spare wheel was stolen from a Renault Expert in Briars Lane, Hatfield on the evening of Monday 26th November.
• A spare wheel was stolen from a Nissan Nevara in School Lane, Hatfield overnight between Thursday 29th November and Friday 30th November.
• A catalytic converter was stolen from a Mercedes – Benz Sprinter in Lark Rise, Hatfield overnight between Friday 7th December and Saturday 8th December.
• A catalytic converter was stolen from a Mercedes – Benz Sprinter in Heathcote Avenue, Hatfield overnight between Sunday 9th December and Monday 10th December
• A catalytic converter was stolen from an Iveco Daily in The Paddock, Hatfield between Thursday 6th December and Monday 10th December.
• A catalytic converter was stolen from a Iveco Daily in Chantry Lane, Hatfield between Wednesday 30th November and Wednesday 12th December.

 

Crime Prevention Officer Ian Dowse said: “These incidents are being investigated however we need to enlist people’s support to help combat this crime.

 

“Residents and local businesses can help by reporting any suspicious behaviour in progress in their neighbourhood to police via 999 - with catalytic converter theft in particular, look out for people hanging around vehicles at unusual times and make sure you make use of your drive or a garage if you have one.”
