I see the Borough Council are again demonstrating its contempt for Hatfield over the necessity to build 7200 new homes. You guessed it, about 90% of them are to be dumped on Hatfield - mostly in the fields by the Garden Village. As you mentioned last week, WGC is earmarked for only 700 (10%) over at Panshanger. But already they are up in arms with NIMBYism. What’s the betting that even fewer get built there?
The reason is simple: The Borough Council is controlled by the Tory Party. WGC’s Tories outnumber Hatfield ones. The all powerful WGC Society has members who are Borough Councillors too (the current Mayor is one). Hatfield Tories dare not speak up for our town in case they upset their remote leader, John Dean. Therefore it is plain to see that a small band of WGC Tories control the Borough Council and see to it that Hatfield is treated as the poor relation - as ever.
Furthermore, the earlier proposals to spread the 7200 new homes to village areas too has been dropped, largely because villagers historically vote Conservative and the Tories do not want to upset their core supporters. The result is another kick in the teeth for Hatfield.
The infrastructure is not here to support such another massive development.
Sincerely, Rob Ward
