The £900,000 refurbishment of Queensway House is still not quite finished. The landmark tower block was scheduled to be completed in time for its 50th birthday in September, but the occasion has been missed.
The works were started in February 2011 and are now close to taking two years to complete. Throughout this time the building has been wrapped in scaffolding and blue protective netting and, for many, it has seemed to be a work in perpetual progress.
By way of comparison, the London Shard, at six times the height of Queensway House, was built from scratch in just over three years.
