A one stop shop for all aspects of keeping students safe took place at the University of Hertfordshire last week (Tuesday, November 27). Held at the DeHavilland campus by members of the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership, the event bought together aspects of personal safety, fire safety and road safety, as well as waste, noise and drug and alcohol awareness. At the event, police also launched a new county-wide campaign which reminds pub and club-goers to take care of themselves and their friends on a night out and get home safely and sends out a strong message to potential offenders around the consequences of committing a sexual assault on someone. The campaign is being run by the Hertfordshire County Community Safety Unit and is being supported by policing teams across the county. Speaking on behalf of the Community Safety Partnership, Neighbourhood Sergeant Chris Thomas said: “It’s a priority for the community safety partnership to ensure all our residents are safe and students are no exception.
“Clubs and pubs across the county are getting involved with the new personal safety campaign and we’re pleased that the University is supporting this crucial message, particularly at the Forum, one of our busiest venues in the borough. The event was well received with many students taking up the opportunity to speak with their local police, council and fire services and gain vital information about things that directly affect them.”
