Sir,
I recently came across an article from last year about Grant Shapps helping to paint the white bridge in WGC. This was staged to promote the Conservative's Big Society initiative which, as I understand it, is designed to help communities have a bigger say in local affairs.
The idea was for the WGC to be painted by a local volunteer force to give it fresshen-up. Mr Shapps was then to do something similar for Hatfield.
But it turns out that the bridge in WGC had been painted by contractors and the 'volunteers' just added a lick of paint to the easy accessible bits. It seems the whole event was a publicity stunt staged by the MP.
But to my recollection the Hatfield part of his promise did not materialise. Does anybody remember him coming here to do our town a bit of good?
Yours, Barry Whittaker
