Hatfield's long awaited town centre redevelopment is due to start on Monday. As excitement mounts among residents, trumpeters have been practising to herald in the arrival of builders.
The original £100m redevelopment plans were scrapped over 4 years ago with blame being attributed to the global financial crisis at the time. But two years ago a new slimmed down £40m version was approved.
Since then, the high demand for new homes has seen many new building developments take place all over Hatfield, everywhere, it seemed, except in the town centre where many apartments are scheduled to to built.
But further to a recent Town Centre Forum meeting, we are told that the developer, St. Modwen's, have now sold all the scheduled apartments off-plan. These sales may be the driving factor in their making a start on the project which is expected to take upto 15 months.
However, it is not yet known who the purchasers of the apartments are.
