POPPY, John Frederick, 98 Years of age Much loved father to Jill and Hazel, grandad, great grandad and partner of some 20 years to Eileen Payne. Passed away peacefully in QE2 Hospital, Welwyn Garden City on the 30th April 2012. Born on the 9th February 1914 in Islington, London. Joined a boys club where he learned to box, served in the RAF during World War II, then became a teacher in North London until his retirement to Wheat Hampstead/Harpenden. There he became an active member of the day centre where he was known for his kindness, sharp wit, song and dance. His last years where spent in Willow Court Care Home, Harpenden. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The funeral took place at St Nicholas Church, Harpenden on Monday 21st May 2012.
