We’ve all seen them. The frazzled parent at the supermarket, desperately trying to silence the howls of their darling offspring, as they throw a tantrum.
Whichever method you choose to do battle with the traitor in the trolley, few will have dealt with their parenthood frustrations in quite the way St Albans mother-of-two Vicky Arlidge has.
On the verge of selling her kids on eBay, the musical comedienne poured her frustrations into a song Mum can you wipe my bum?, turning her into an overnight YouTube sensation.
Inspired by this reaction, Vicky went on to write more comic songs, about her husband, her life as a music teacher, her post-birth lack of libido and how she hates Radio 5 Live.
With each new song the social media comments came flooding in, with fans comparing the piano and ukulele-playing singer to Victoria Wood and Bill Bailey.
More than 25,000 YouTube hits later and she is taking her unique comic style to Edinburgh.
“Why should people come to my show? Because laughter should be an essential part of everybody’s day, as indeed should singing,“ says Vicky. “Let’s share dirty laundry together! I’ll show you mine...
“As for what I’ll be doing at the gig, I don’t want to give too much away, but the following things will be in my luggage – a ukulele, keyboard, plastic toilet seat, sombrero and fake moustache... and a lot of toilet rolls.“
