A comedian reportedly booed offstage during an anti-Brexit routine at a charity gig is bringing his mixture of confrontation and self-deprecation to St Albans.
Double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Nish Kumar will perform his live show, Your Power, Your Control at the Alban Arena on Friday, May 6.
Despite success onstage and on air, hosting The Mash Report, and Late Night Mash, guesting on shows such as Taskmaster, Live At The Apollo and QI, he is prepared to admit he is not everyone's cup of tea.
Delivering a Brexit routine at the Lord’s Taverners Christmas lunch in 2019, some of the lunch made its way onstage, with the BBC later reporting that he was booed offstage.
Did someone throw a bread roll at Nish Kumar?
He said: “I looked to my right and saw it rolling near me and I just had to say, ‘did someone throw a bread roll at me?’
"There was a table of comedians there and I saw Tim Key’s facethrough the darkness: he was just nodding at me.
"I think Chris Addison was having an argument with the bread thrower but the identity of that person remains unclear to me.”
The veteran of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Russell Howard’s Stand-Up Central, Drunk History and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order will be looking back over the past two years, with a show he originally considered calling Power, Corruption and Lies, until he remembered New Order had already used it.
Kumar said: “It has been a period of upheaval and uncertainty with COVID and the political situation. You will be amazed by my capacity to somehow take all these things personally."
