Residents in south west Hertfordshire will soon be able to be trained how to use social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter at their local library.
Introductory lessons in social media will be available alongside basic computing sessions from next month.
The courses will be aimed at people with little or no computing experience.
Among the things they will be taught are how to set up and use a Facebook account safely and securely as well as how to use the social networking service Twitter.
Chris Hayward, Hertfordshire County Council’s libraries spokesman, said: "It’s really important to have basic computer skills these days and social media websites provide a great way to keep in touch with friends and family.
"Hertfordshire Library Services’ taster courses provide a great opportunity for people to learn these important skills at their own pace and in a friendly environment.
"Library members can also practice their IT skills for up to one hour free of charge on the computers available at all Hertfordshire libraries."
The taster sessions are taking place in most libraries and cost £5 although there is no charge for library members who have a disability or who are on low incomes and receive benefits. For more details, ask at your local library.
