Drivers in St Albans will be able to have anti-theft number plate screws fitted on their car for free.
Hertfordshire Constabulary is providing StopLock screws, which make it extrememly difficult for the plates to be removed.
St Albans Recovery, a garage in Hatfield Road, is offering to fit the device for free between July 23 and August 4.
Detective Inspector Paul Doran, from the Crime Reduction Unit, said: “StopLock number plate screws are a great way to secure your registration plate.
“Thieves have been known to remove number plates to fit onto other vehicles, which have then been used in crimes.
“I would like to thank St Albans Recovery for helping us deliver this great offer and would urge motorists to take advantage of this opportunity to make their vehicles more secure.”
Anyone interested in having the locks fitted, which will take about 10 minutes, should call 01727 834840 to arrange an appointment.
