A COLLEGE tutor from Harpenden, who dedicates her time to supporting students with disabilities, has been chosen to take part in the Paralympic torch relay.
Sarah Moreland, head of business and ICT at Oaklands College in St Albans, will have the honour of carrying the flame on its journey to the Olympic stadium before the opening ceremony on August 29.
The 43-year-old, who has worked with the Riding for the Disabled Association for the last five years, was awarded an MBE last year for her services to further education.
Sarah has coached the RDA Team GB at the Special Olympics in 2011 and still one day hopes to produce a Paralympic from her own stables at Oaklands College.
She said: "Disability sport is such a huge part of my world and I've thought about where that passion came from over the years.
"I'm a third generation rider, my grandmother had polio when she was younger and used horses to help her walk."
Sarah added: "I am absolutely delighted, it's fabulous to be recognised. I feel so lucky to be nominated and privileged.
"I'm passionate about Paralympic sport and equestrian has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember."
