A TEENAGE boy was sentenced last week for the rape of a woman at a St Albans nightclub.
The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was 13 at the time of when the rape happened on December 5, 2010.
The court heard during the sentencing on Friday, January 6, how the boy sexually attacked the victim, once inside Batchwood Hall nightclub and once outside.
He was sentenced to two years and five months in a youth offenders institute for rape.
Detective Inspector Steve Keating, from the sexual offences investigation unit based in Welwyn Garden City, said: "Firstly I would like to commend the bravery of the victim for reporting the attacks and allowing us to bring the boy to justice.
"The offender targeted a vulnerable woman who had been separated from her friends and subjected her to a horrendous and terrifying ordeal.
"Crimes of this nature have a lasting detrimental effect in victims in so many ways. We understand if you have been subject to this type of crime it is not always easy to contact police."
The teenager was issued with a sex offenders prevention order and was told to sign the sex offenders register.
