A TEACHER from St Albans is gearing up for a charity cycle ride to raise cash for poverty-stricken countries.
More than 100 volunteers from CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) are set to Pedal Against Poverty on Sunday, June 12.
Louise Weaver, a teacher at Heathlands School, will also be taking part in the ride which follows a scenic route alongside the River Lee to Broxbourne.
Speaking about the challenge, Louise said: “CAFOD is an excellent charity that enables the disadvantaged around the world to help themselves working through trusted partner organisations on the ground. I feel privileged to be a part of it.”
Louise and the team hope to raise some £15,000 from this event to provide 20 shanty towns in Latin America with a reliable supply of clean water.
In 2010 Pedal Against Charity raise £12,200 for CAFOD’s work in Africa.
