There are festivals up and down the country but we are lucky to have one right on our doorstep. Standon Calling festival in Hertfordshire is a 40 minute drive from St Albans, so it’s very easy to get to and an amazing experience with family and friends.

Every year, Standon Calling delivers with a star lineup. This year, the headliners are Years and Years, Self Esteem and Bloc Party. In addition to this, Anastasia, Rick Astley, Melanie C and many more talented artists are playing. There are multiple stages and even DJ sets that go into the early hours of the morning. In past years, artists like Anne-Marie, Primal Scream, Bastille, Florence and the Machine and Lewis Capaldi have performed.

One of the things that makes Standon Calling so special is that it has a dress up theme each year. Right now, fans are eagerly waiting to find out this year’s theme. Examples from previous years include Who Let the Toys Out?, Time Turbulence, Twisted Creatures and The Future. The theme doesn’t only apply to the costumes, it’s to a grand scale where the whole festival is decorated accordingly with props. If you like to dress up you can join the costume parade, showcase your outfit and see everyone else’s creativity.

Make sure to try the delicious food stalls, which have a variety of cuisines with something for everyone! There is much to see and do, with a dog show, a comedy tent and even a swimming pool (which is very enjoyable especially on a hot day). Family friendly activities are located in the kids area which has arts and crafts, theatre, dance and sensory play. There are also fairground rides such as a ferris wheel.

This year, Standon Calling is on Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd July. There are only a few tickets left so make sure you grab them, while you can!
