A women's group from St Albans have packed 20 bags to be sent to children in Africa.
The Soroptimists group, which has 28 members, have taken part in the Mary's Meals Backpack project.
The project provides meals, as well as basic learning tools such as pencils and notepads to children in some of the poorest parts of Africa.
Jane Slatter, communications officer for the groups, said: "The expression of the children's faces when they received they receive the backpacks is great.
"They really value their education and they are desperate to go to school."
Mrs Slatter, who has been a member for 17 years, said the group donated various items as well as collected money. And from it they have managed to put together 20 backpacks - ten for boys and ten for girls.
