Residents are being asked to donate £10 to finish off the restoration of the former Odeon cinema in St Albans.

The London Road building is set to open this summer after being transformed into a £2 million art deco masterpiece, renamed the Odyssey.

James Hannaway made it his mission to restore the cinema which has been described as "one of Britain’s most stunning art deco cinemas."

Now organisers are asking people to spare some cash to help build the last vital works of the building.

In return residents will receive a hand-signed certificate from Mr Hannaway and the opportunity to name a film to be shown in the first week of the Odyssey opening.

As well as this, residents can name a seat for life in the cinema at the cost of £1,000. A box seat is £1,500.

Mr Hannaway previously led the campaign to restore The Rex in Berkhamsted following its closure in 1988. After a huge restoration project, it re-opened in 2004.
