Ladies from across St Albans gathered in Verulamium Park to mark International Women’s Day.
Around 50 people and a dog dressed in white and stood on the bridge over the boating lake on Sunday to raise awareness of the cause.
Eileen Harris, the mayor of St Albans, was one of the guests to attend the event, which was organised by the local branch of Soroptimist International.
Jane Slatter, a member of the organisation, said: "It was so cold we couldn’t believe it.
"But despite what a dreadful day it was it was really good.
"We’re really pleased that we did it.
"Lots of people in the park were asking what we were up to."
During the morning members of the group gave speeches about the organisation and spoke to residents about the aim of the day.
Ms Slatter said: "People see these things and just think they are happening somewhere else.
"It is easy to think that things don’t happen locally but they do.
"We need to show that we care locally and put things into a local perspective.
"We hope that we will be able to do something like this every year."
